MAKERS MARKET 2009![]() Download the Markers Market invitation as a PDF file MAKERS MARKET Socrates Sculpture Park Presented by American Craft, The Noguchi Museum, R 20th Century and Socrates Sculpture Park Makers Market is a new open air marketplace featuring a curated selection of skillfully crafted products. The Market will be presented in a series of large tents within Socrates Sculpture Park's spring exhibition, State Fair. Approximately 30 makers-from New York, California, Rhode Island, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Utah, Connecticut, Oregon, and New Hampshire-will be selling a broad range of products including textiles, ceramics, turned wood bowls, glassware, bicycles, jewelry, furniture, and motorcycles, as well as one of a kind and small production objects. Participants include: Long Island City's rich history of industry and manufacturing, and its current status as one of the city's most remarkable cultural communities, will provide the perfect context for the Market, which focuses on design excellence, technical expertise, and quality of materials. Socrates Sculpture Park is built on a mission of creative access and, through its outdoor exhibitions and artist residency program, encourages strong interaction between art, artists and the general public. The Park site - a built green environment with spectacular views of the river and the Manhattan skyline - will offer a unique forum to showcase the distinctive community of artisans that are participating in Makers Market. 2009 MAKERS MARKET SCHEDULE: Preview Event: Friday, June 26, 2009, 6 - 8 pm / $50 Be among the first to shop the Makers Market and enjoy cocktails by St. Germain and hors d'oeuvres on the waterfront as the sun sets over the Manhattan skyline. SHUTTLE SERVICE For Makers Market, The Noguchi Museum is extending its usual Sunday shuttle service between the Museum and Manhattan to include Saturday, June 27. The bus leaves Manhattan for the Museum from the northeast corner of Park Avenue and 70th Street (in front of the Asia Society). The return bus leaves from the entrance to The Noguchi Museum at 9-01 33rd Road at Vernon Boulevard (across the street and one block from Socrates Sculpture Park) and discharges passengers at Park Avenue and 70th Street. The trip takes approximately thirty minutes one-way. Fare: $5.00 for one-way, $10.00 for round-trip. Shuttle Schedule: Pick-ups in Manhattan (in front of Asia Society) at 12:30pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm, and 3:30pm. Return trips from The Noguchi Museum at 1:00pm, 2:00pm, 3:00pm, 4:00pm, and 5:00pm. The bus holds twenty-five passengers, seated on a first come, first served basis. The Museum of Modern Art and P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center jointly present MoMA/P.S.1 Young Architects Program (YAP), an annual series of competitions that gives emerging architects the opportunity to build projects conceived for P.S.1's large courtyard entrance in Long Island City, Queens. This year's winning proposal, from architectural firm MOS, will present an urban landscape that will incorporate elements of shade, water, seating, and bar areas, and will serve as an immersive environment for the 2009 Warm Up summer music series. |
