Now in its third year, Makers Market is a premier forum to experience the convergence of design and contemporary craft in an open-air marketplace. Collectors and enthusiasts will have the opportunity to meet over 30 American makers and shop a curated selection of skillfully crafted, one-of-a-kind products and limited edition objects, including: ceramics, turned wood bowls, glassware, motorcycles, knives, tableware, jewelry, baskets, furniture, lighting, textiles, surfboards and more.

Makers Market will be presented in a series of tents at Socrates Sculpture Park - a built green environment with a working studio and exhibition space for contemporary sculpture - situated on the waterfront in Long Island City with East River and Manhattan skyline views. Long Island City's rich history of industry and manufacturing, and its current status as one of the city's most remarkable cultural communities, provides an ideal context for the Market, which has been curated by Alan Wanzenberg Architect/ Design, The Noguchi Museum, R 20th Century, and Socrates Sculpture Park with an emphasis on design excellence, technical expertise and quality of materials.

This year, Makers Market welcomes a number of new makers from across the country including, Hanna Sandin (Jewelry/New York); Serena Mitnik-Miller (Household Wares/San Francisco); and Jonathan Kline, Blackash Baskets (Basketry/Trumansburg, NY). Returning makers include: Andrea Corson (Jewelry/New York); Daniel Michalik/ DMFD Studio (Furniture/Brooklyn); Emily Miranda (Jewelry/Brooklyn); Eric Bonnin (Ceramics/New York); Thaddeus Wolfe (Glass/New York) and more.

In addition, Market 2011 highlights will include a moderated panel discussion entitled, Craft, Community, and Commerce, hosted by The Noguchi Museum and free with museum admission; and the Socrates Academy workshop, Felt Making with Hope Ginsburg, in which participants will explore the creative possibilities of working with felt.

"With over 4,000 enthusiasts in attendance last year, Makers Market has proven to be an exceptional opportunity for vital exchange between makers at the top of their craft and their peers, collectors and audiences in a relaxed, outdoor setting," said Alyson Baker, Executive Director of Socrates Sculpture Park and founder of Makers Market. "We look forward to a successful market with an expanded group of makers, and a larger selection of objects and events."
